Pictured: areas of the city under water
The most frightening and terrible of all the floods in Florence occurred on 4 November 1966, caused by the meteorological catastrophe that struck the Arno basin with rainfall far more intense than any previously recorded. The rainfall in the 24 hours between 3 and 4 November was about 180/200 litres per square metre, and the Arno reached a level of 11 metres
