L'inverno del 1946 a Milano è un inverno come si dice, "d'altri tempi". La neve seppellisce la città sotto un coltrone prepotente, che blocca praticamente il traffico. Sono scarsi i mezzi per lo sgombero, comunque non in grado di fronteggiare l'emergenza. Per un po' di tempo la grande città industriale retrocede, non spiacevolmente, a un'immagine ottocentesca, dove i bravi cavalli normanni ( "i cavalli del Gondrand"!) sembrano i soli a fare fronte alle interperie.
