La più spaventosa e terribile di tutte le alluvioni a Firenze avvenne il 4 novembre 1966 e si produsse per il cataclisma meteorologico che investì il bacino dell'Arno con precipitazioni assai più intense di tutte quelle misurate in precedenza. La quantità d'acqua caduta nelle 24 ore fra il 3 e il 4 novembre fu di circa 180/200 litri per metro quadro, il livello dell'Arno toccò gli 11 metri
