The story of the photo
AC Milan's triumphant return after winning the 1963 European Cup, having beaten Benfica in the final. At Linate airport, on 23 May 1963, José Altafini — who scored twice against the Portuguese side in the final at Wembley — shows the cup to journalists and fans; on the left, captain Cesare Maldini. It was the first, historic European triumph for an Italian club.

Print details
Fine art print on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta paper, the benchmark for gallery photography. Thanks to the barium sulphate in its coating, it closely recalls the baryta paper of classic analogue photography: a warm, brilliant white, deep blacks and a wide tonal range, ideal for bringing out the historical images of the Farabola Archive in black and white and in colour.
This print is intended for homes and private spaces. For a hotel, restaurant, shop or office we prepare a tailor-made quote that includes permission to display it: write to us from the Prints for venues and offices page. To publish the image, online or in print, you need an editorial licence instead.
Frames and mats
The photograph is framed in a 20 mm Hamburg frame: a wooden classic with a simple, elegant profile, made to measure by expert framers. Real wood veneer with visible grain, 20 mm wide and 30 mm deep.
The print is mounted with a 5 cm mat on each side, in natural white museum board: acid-free, lightfast and completely free of wood fibres, with a bevelled cut. It is the breathing space that sets off the photograph, in the classic gallery presentation.
For protection, Groglass Artglass AR anti-reflective museum glass: a special coating makes it almost invisible, removing reflections for a sharp, undistorted view of the image. The frame is finished on the back and fitted with a hook, ready to hang. In the photo, museum glass on the left and ordinary glass on the right.
